What is

horticultural therapy?

Horticultural therapy utilizes gardening and other nature-related activities to enhance human health and well-being.  Rewarding to people of all ages and abilities, it is especially beneficial to those with disabilities. The benefits include enhanced sensory stimulation, improved motor skills, a greater sense of competence, and the opportunity for socialization and self-expression. Only recently recognized as an academic discipline, horticultural therapy has been practiced for centuries.

Classes at the HTG

.

From April through October the HTG offers  education and enrichment programs for people with special needs. Our classes, for both adults and children, are led by a certified horticultural therapist and free of charge to health and social services organizations throughout the Hudson River Valley.

Programs may be a single visit or repeated sessions, and program content can be custom designed to fit the abilities and interests of attendees. Transportation is available if necessary.
